Homeopathy in summary

  • Homeopathy is a system of medicine based on the treatment with highly diluted substances.
  • Homeopathic remedies aim to support the body's own healing mechanisms.
  • Homeopathy is not a habit-forming; nor causes side effects, as is frequently the case in conventional medicine.
  • Homeopaths treat a sick person rather than a disease.
  • Homeopaths believe that any physical disease has a mental and an emotional component.
  • The most appropriate medicine will be matched to each patient according to the clients own specific symptoms.
  • Some people could get worse for a while after starting homeopathic remedies and it is interpreted like the body’s temporary stimulation of symptoms while making an effort to restore health.
  • Homeopathic remedies are derived from natural substances which come from plants, minerals or animals.
  • The major difference is that the substances in homeopathic medicines are used in ultra high dilutions, which make them non-toxic.
  • Until now science has not been able to explain the mechanism of action of the ultra high dilutions in the organism, but the laboratory experiments have repeatedly demonstrated that homeopathically prepared substances show biological effects.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a natural, complete medical system of theory and practice which aims to stimulate the body's ability to heal itself by giving very small doses of highly diluted substances. It was discovered by the German doctor, Samuel Hahnemann, who disagreed with the harsh medical practices of that time like the use of poisons such as arsenic; and he looked for a way how to reduce the damaging side-effects associated with a medical treatment.

The homeopathic medicine is at present one of the leading practiced alternative therapies by physicians in Europe and Asia; especially on the Indian subcontinent. Since the development of homeopathy as a medical specialty in the early 1800s, it has been internationally a leading alternative to the orthodox medicine. It poses an ongoing scientific, philosophical, and economic threat to the conventional medical care, because the homeopathy treatment is usually much cheaper than the conventional medical care; it is often easy to use without a prescription and a number of its key concepts are not consistent with established laws of science. An easy usage of homeopathy is in my point of view the advantage for us, consumers, and at the same time the most threatening factor for the pharmaceutical companies which do everything possible to keep us dependent on the doctors and drugs.

The homeopathic approach maintains a deep respect for symptoms of illness as the important defenses of a person's immune system. While the conventional medicine often tends to assume that symptoms are something "wrong", which need to be treated, suppressed, or biochemically manipulated. The homeopaths tend to assume that the most important is to support organism’s defenses which initiate a healing process without external suppressing of symptoms. Ultimately, these two different approaches of healing people have led to various conflicts.

The principle of similarity (or "like cures like") dates back to Hippocrates (460-377 BC) but in its current form, homeopathy has been worldwide used for more than 200 years. The principle of dilutions states that the lower the dose of the medication, the greater its effectiveness. In the homeopathy, substances are diluted in a stepwise fashion and shaken vigorously between each dilution. This process, referred to as "potentization," is believed to transmit some form of information or energy from the original substance to the final diluted remedy. The most homeopathic remedies are so diluted that there are not remained any molecules of the healing substance; however, in homeopathy, it is believed that the substance has left its imprint or "essence," which encourages the body to begin the healing process.

The homeopaths believe that every physical disease has a mental and an emotional component, that’s why a homeopathic diagnosis includes physical symptoms, a current emotional and psychological state and the person’s constitution. The right remedy for a condition will take all of these aspects into account, so every diagnosis and remedy is individual. That means: five people with fever would need five very different prescriptions.
